About Kate’s teaching and workshops

I have been running workshops and teaching for almost 30 years. I teach one to one piano, keyboard, harmonium and theory in small groups. Lessons can be arranged privately in Newcastle Upon Tyne where I also teach in the Keyboard Department for the Young Musicians Programme at Sage Gateshead. In Cumbria, I teach from Rosehill Theatre in the West and from home, near Penrith.

I have been involved in running many contemporary music workshops at festivals and events as part of my work in various ensembles; also in schools and Universities in the UK and further afield, in Europe, USA and Canada. I have worked with organisations such as BBC Proms, Sage Gateshead, Sound Scotland, Dartington Hall, Southbank Centre, Colorado College, ICU Rome, Timezones Italy and Glasgow City of Music.

I am currently giving lessons and workshops in person and also via Skype, Zoom and other platforms. Please get in touch if you would like to have lessons, or sign up for a workshop or short course.

Online Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Courses are for Under 18s, or adults and are open for booking for February 2021. Courses run in 3/4 week blocks and are 60 minutes weekly. We look at new music scores and different approaches, with a focus on techniques and building and widening repertoire. Advanced Courses are styled towards each group’s needs. “Kate has been inspiring and hugely motivating to me as I undertook my piano performance ARSM and DipABRSM in piano teaching. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to go for it had I not had her positive input and support. Thank you so much, Kate!”

After researching suitable piano teachers we found Kate, who’s energy and uniqueness shone through. My son began his lessons this year and has progressed tremendously with Kate’s fun and accessible teaching style.

Our son began piano lessons with Kate at the age of five, before the pandemic kicked in. She has been our son’s piano teacher for more than a year now, moving to online teaching due to the restrictions. Both in person and online, Kate is an absolutely brilliant teacher and our son has made immense progress under her guidance. She is an accomplished pianist, as well as a great, flexible teacher.
