I have been teaching for almost 30 years. I give one to one piano and harmonium lessons and theory in small groups. I teach at the Centre for Advanced Training, in the Keyboard Department for the Young Musicians Programme at Sage Gateshead. In Cumbria, I teach at Dallam School and from home, near Penrith, Cumbria.

I have been involved in running many contemporary music workshops at festivals and events as part of my work in various ensembles; also in schools and Universities in the UK and further afield, in Europe, USA and Canada. I have worked with organisations such as BBC Proms, Sage Gateshead, Sound Scotland, Dartington Hall, Southbank Centre, Colorado College, ICU Rome, Timezones Italy and Glasgow City of Music.

Please get in touch if you would like to have lessons, or find out about workshop offers.

“Kate has been inspiring and hugely motivating to me as I undertook my piano performance ARSM and DipABRSM in piano teaching. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to go for it had I not had her positive input and support. Thank you so much, Kate!”

“After researching suitable piano teachers we found Kate, who’s energy and uniqueness shone through. My son began his lessons this year and has progressed tremendously with Kate’s fun and accessible teaching style.”

“Our son began piano lessons with Kate at the age of five, before the pandemic kicked in. She has been our son’s piano teacher for more than a year now, moving to online teaching due to the restrictions. Both in person and online, Kate is an absolutely brilliant teacher and our son has made immense progress under her guidance. She is an accomplished pianist, as well as a great, flexible teacher.”

“Kate has been teaching my daughter piano for a few years now. Lesson times can have some flexibility, with enough notice.  My daughter loves the lessons and looks forward to them. She can explore how to play music pieces she enjoys, besides those in the lesson plans.”

She wrote the following:

Kate is a kind, fun and encouraging teacher. During piano there were some pieces of music that I thought were too complicated but she showed me and helped me understand them. And now they are a piece of cake. She is also very adaptable as we still have lessons just remotely. She is a great teacher and you would be lucky to have her.
